So many new things going on at the library these days! It’s hard to know where to start. Renovation of the bank building is continuing. We haven’t heard of a possible moving date, but we will let you know when we find out. We will post the news on our NEW WEBSITE! We have to thank SEKLS for getting a grant to update our websites. It is beautiful. You can check it out at thayerfrccitylibrary.org. There are tons of features, information, calendars, a map, a weather forecast for Thayer, a message center, new books, links to our catalog and the SEKLS on-line catalog. It really is a sight to behold. It comes with a different e-mail address; thayerfrccitylibrary618@gmail.com, but the old e-mail, thayerfrc@embarqmail.com still works.
We have two new programs to offer Thayer residents. The first is a seed library. It is so simple and free. Come in to the library and go through our selection of seed packets. You can take up to five packets each time you visit. Many of the seeds are heirloom varieties and some are more common seeds. The majority are vegetables, but there are some flowers, also. Sometime during the year, bring us back new seed packets to replace the ones you took. That way we can be self-sustaining and always offer a varied selection. If there is interest in the community, we can offer lessons in seed harvesting. We are busy planning ways to help, encourage, and engage fellow gardeners.
The other program is geared more toward parents of older children, particularly home-schooled families. We used a grant to purchase ten scientific experiment kits. The kits are ready to be checked out. They include; biology, chemistry, electricity and magnetism, engineering, fuel cells, happy atoms, motion projects, physics, and robotics. These kits aren’t toys, but they are probably fun! They can be checked out for two weeks at a time by a responsible adult. We also have extra items that you may need to do some of the experiments. We are excited to offer this unique opportunity for Thayer.
These new programs don’t replace other programs that we have like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and Welcome, Baby. We strive to provide services to Thayer residents to make life easier and more enjoyable. See you at the library!
